If we can move past the stigma and start open dialogues on mental illnesses we will have saved so many lives. Maternal mental health does not only affect the mother but has great impact on the child, the father/partner and sometimes even the community. Every child deserves a healthy mother and every mother deserves an opportunity to raise a healthy child. That said, instead of hiding the symptoms and staying silent we should normalize talking about this condition and encouraging mothers who are struggling to seek help.
According to the nonprofit Postpartum Progress, only about 15 percent of women with postpartum depression get professional help. So many mothers struggling with post partum depression yet only 15% of these get the help that they need. This is very sad.
